If I Were A Book

The Quiz Speaks:

You're Watership Down!

by Richard Adams

Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd
be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.

Huh? Never read it. Maybe I should.
On The Changing Of The Seasons

Jasper Speaks:

Spring is a great time of year. It is so nice to go out on the days that the sun is starting to break through the clouds. I love that first time I can get in my van and roll down the windows. It is great to feel the wind in my face! It is also fun to see God's renewal coming around in nature. As I drove to the church yesterday I thought about how the changing of the seasons is very similar to the changes in our own lives.

We have spring which is a time in our spiritual lives when everything is new. The things of God are exciting and we are learning and growing. Our spiritual lives are "greening up" and soon we are in full blossom. There is some pruning that can hurt but mostly it is about growing and changing in Christ.

The summers of our Christian life are when God is using us. We are in service to Him
and we are seeing how He can do so many things in and through us. Some of the summer days are almost unbearably hot and God is showing us so much that it can be overwhelming. In the summer days of our faith, God wants us to work hard and full and He gives us many opportunities to do so.

The fall of our Christian life is when God wants us to be still and rest in him. We can take time to reflect on the colorful ways he has moved in our lives. We "fall" into His arms are take rest and refuge from the world. Some of the hot days of summer are behind us and God shows us His love through the cooler times when we can stop and think about His love for us.

Winter in the Christian life can be difficult. These times are often cold and we feel alone and separated from God. It is hard to see life in what God is doing. In winter we go through periods of questioning God and grappling with the things He has tried to teach us. As the days get darker God is ever faithful sending in a snowstorm or two to remind us that there is beauty even in the hard times. The thing to remember in the winters of the Christian life is that God promises us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" God promises that even in the difficult times eventually all things will become new. We grab hold to that promise and another spring will come upon us.

In the Christian life we are always traveling through seasons. Sometimes that doesn't come as neatly as the changing of season in nature. You may be in the heart of summer one day and the depths of winter the next. But as Christians we need to remember the promise of Philippians 1:6, " being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus". God has a plan and as we live through the season of our walk with Him we know that He is faithful to finish what He started in each of our lives. The next time you are in the middle of winter remember that the next day you can drive with the windows down is coming again, soon.
