Off Again

Jasper Speaks:

Well I am leaving in about an hour to go to Bar Harbor, Maine for a couple of days. My mother-in-law is in town and so we are doing some sightseeing. She has seen everything we know to show her in southern Maine so we are once again tapping into the hotel discounts and doing some interesting sightseeing. We will be staying at a swanky hotel and going whale watching. I am ready to do something. It has been a long week of nothing for my vacation! So, I should check back in on Saturday!

Quote Of The Day:

Corrie Ten Boom Speaks:

"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."

Jasper Speaks:

Corrie Ten Boom is one of my favorite authors. I would quote her everyday if I didn't think it would bore you too bad. This quote reminds me that even if I am not sure where my life is headed at the moment God knew before the foundations of the world. WOW!

Useless Fact For August 10

The Fact Speaks:

All of the other planets in our solar system could fit inside Jupiter.

Jasper Speaks:

Holy Moley that's one big planet!
Quote For Today

C.S. Lewis Speaks:
"God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world".

Jasper Speaks:

How true this is. Tragedy and pain are nothing I want to go through but I do realize they are necessary to my growth. If our lives were simple and easy there would be no need for dependence on the creator. We would not need to trust Him. From time to time we must be reminded that we have no control. All of the control is the Lord's and our dependence on Him is what makes us more holy.

Please Pray For This Family

The Press Speaks:
A Child Dies

Jasper Speaks:

I know several Youth Pastors in Tennessee who know this family personally. The father is the Youth Pastor at the church. The true time the baby was left was 11:00 AM when the father arrived at the church for a staff meeting and forgot the child was with him.

Keep them in your prayers. I can not imagine how hard it must be for them tonight. This situation has haunted me all day. I saw some things I thought were pretty hurtful on the YS Message Boards about this and was disappointed with some of my friends there. We are all human though. I pray this family will survive this horrible tragedy.

God's Plan And Junior High Boys

Jasper Speaks:

I love to see God work. It amazes me, the things he can do through a willing heart. Most recently, I saw Him move on our Mission Trip last week. We took twenty-five students to Raleigh, North Carolina. This was our third trip. If you are a frequent reader of my blog you know I really believe in
Mission Raleigh, the organization we work with there. They are changing lives through their unconditional love and fearless commitment.

I had the privilege of seeing God work in the lives of our students. One in particular was an eighth grade boy. When this kid came into the group, he was a punk. He had been King Of The Hill in AWANA and was determined not to let anyone get in his way in youth group. Of course it only took a very little while for him to realize that he was low man on the totem pole now. He was generally disruptive and pretty rude to me personally. I wasn't sure if I wanted to like him. I wasn't sure that God would do much with him.

Over the past year I have been praying for this kid a lot. I have also been praying that we would have a strong relationship. I took him out a couple of times just to talk and he seemed to be warming up to me. So he was assigned to ride in my van on the trip. Even as we started to NC, I could feel that God was building an even stronger bridge between us. We laughed and joked the whole way. It was very nice.

As the week went on, I became the late night leader. I was up until at least 2:00AM every morning. The only bad thing about that was I was also in charge of getting everyone up so I was back up by 5:00AM. God gave me strength. I spent two nights in the younger guys room. It was amazing. We had such a great time getting to know each other. In between the silliness of bad jokes and passing gas, God opened up windows for brief spiritual discussions as well.

By Tuesday night we were reminding the kids that they were there to effect lives for God. Scotty B, the head of Mission Raleigh, spoke to us and shared with us success and failure stories of the ministry. There were lots of tears and God broke us yet again for the children of Raleigh.

Then the kid I had been praying for made me proud. Over the next two days he led six children to Christ. It was amazing to sit back and watch as he opened the door and walked right through. On our night of sharing, the only time I was brought to tears was as I watched that same boy who used to roll his eyes and talk throughout worship, sing loudly with his eyes closed and his focus on God.

I always say mission trips are much more about the change in the people who go than in the people we serve. I think that is so true. This year my heart was touched by seeing what God has done in the life of one regular eighth grade boy. I am privileged to have been a part.

Quote For Today

On A Mission From God

William Booth Speaks:
"'Not called!' did you say? 'Not heard the call,' I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. And then look Christ in the face, whose mercy you have professed to obey, and tell him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish his mercy to the world."

Jasper Speaks:
WOW! After just returning from a mission trip this quote really speaks to me. So many people are content with staying where they are when there are so many one breath away from hell. I am so thankful for those who sent our team to Raleigh. We saw 33 salvation decisions in our four days working in the inner city. It is amazing what God can do through willing teens. I am so happy that God used our group in this powerful way. When the call came, our students listened and went. I am very proud of the work God did through us there. When was the last time you went out of your comfort zone? When was the last time you went somewhere sacrificially and served God? When was the last time you led someone to Christ? The call is sure and the call is ours. Will you answer?

What Movie Would You Be In?

The Quiz Speaks:

Forrest Gump!

What movie Do you Belong in?

Jasper Speaks:

I swear these things always make me feel like I am stupid! I get the oddest responses to the quizes. Oh well, I have learned that life really is like a box of chocolates and the stupidest people usually have the most interesting lives.
