1 Corinthians 16:13

God's Word Speaks:

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.

Jasper Speaks:

We just spent a week at VBS talking about courage. We were reminded althea courage is important when we walk with God. There are lots of times we don't know what lies ahead and we have to be courageous and walk with faith anyway.

I saw that in action this week with the situation we just went through with Queene. There were so many times that we were uncertain of what God's plan was for her. I recall that one early visit I found her fine and very much in good spirits. We joked with each other and talked about the mission trip to Canada and her excitement about going. The next day I was visiting her in ICU. A little frightening to say the least.

I think part of the real scare in this situation was the unknown. What was causing the illness? Why had her condition changed so rapidly? I sat and watch Shola during this time. She was concerned but I was amazed at her courage. She spoke often of God's grace. She spoke often of the strength our Lord was providing for her during this difficult time. In her I saw real courage. It was courage that came not from her own strength but from the strength of the Lord. Even in the most difficult moments, she trusted that God would deliver Queene and would help them through this time.

In each one of our walks we need to embrace the courage that God offers. Whether it is a sick loved one or standing up for our beliefs in difficult times, God says, "Have courage. You can trust in me. I have it all under control." I pray that we listen to that call.

Wednesday

Jasper Speaks:

So, it is Wednesday but really feels like Thursday because we started VBS on Sunday. VBS has been going really well. I am loving doing the music stop with Kendra. Nothing like teaching kids Herman The Worm to annoy their parents with! We are gearing up for the mission trip. I must admit that I am a little bit nervous about how it all will turn out! I am praying that God will just take control. I realize he needs less of Jasper than what I think. Sometimes that principle is hard to live by however.

I am really glad Queene is getting better. I really want her to be able to go on mission trip! Keep praying for her!

I am not so happy that I only have little more than a month before school starts again. That makes me sad. Oh well, I just wish summer vacation was six months long instead of two.

Today we are doing the Blue Gnu at the zoo. The kids should have a really good time. I will have to sit and wait for them in the Living World Cafe place so they can easily find me. I guess we could make it even harder and I could roam as well. Then they would have to find both of us. Maybe that is too hard for 2.5 hours or so.I am going to try and correct our home study for adoption while we are there today. If I finish it, we will get it off in the next day or so and then it won't be long until we get our license number and start hearing about specific kids. This is kind of frightening!

I just found this awesome verse in my quiet time this morning. It is Galatians 5:6b. It says, "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." WOW! That is deep. There are so many things I try to please God by doing. I work so hard to prove myself to Him and other people. Still, when it boils down to the very end, it is all about faith shown through love. When I think about that, it makes me remember that the gospel is so simple. If we are really acting in love 24/7, there is no way we won't be living a Christ like life. Sin is really a lack of love for God and others. Every sin we commit is all about ignoring the call to live out our faith in love in an unselfish manner. If we have true faith, it will be evident in the fact that we love differently than others. Love should be the first thing the world sees in us. Unfortunately, there are many times it is not even the fifth or sixth thing people see. Ultimately, love was most evident in Jesus' death on the cross. If we are going to show our faith through love we, too, have to be willing to die. We must die to our own desires. We have to die for other people and our love for them. Wow! It is amazing how much you can get out of even one little half of a verse in God's Word. AWESOME!
