One Week Down ...

40 something to go!

Jasper Speaks:

So, the first week is over! Today was more difficult than the others. I got a new kid added to one of my classes that really kept trying to push the envelope. You gotta' love an hour and a half of power struggles!

Went to the church and worked awhile this afternoon. I studied some for one of the series we are doing this fall. Then it was off to Mobap to be parents at Welcome Weekend. It was kind of the changing of the guard from Beth to us as we drove away and left her at the President's Ice Cream Social tonight. I felt a little sad for her. Her roommate hasn't shown up yet and word is she may not. Your own room = really good. No roommate in week one = kinda lonely. She will be at the school chapel service on Sunday so for all of you waiting to meet her, you will have to wait until at least Wednesday.

For those of you keeping track, this morning I broke the 120 pound lost barrier. Weird. Some of the kids were talking about it in hushed tones in class today. It was pretty funny but cool that they noticed. Still, the question remains:

Is it summer vacation yet?

Thursday Is Here!!!
Jasper Speaks:

The first week of school is over tomorrow and so far I have survived. I am sure it will have its ups and downs but tomorrow is payday and that is a happy thing!

I thought Jeff rocked the house at Reality Check last night. His sermon really spoke to me. Sometimes I wear a lot of hats and it is convicting to be called out on it. I think I know why God kept putting that message off all summer because it was a perfect end to the series. Go Jeff!

Betsy is here! It is fun having some Mainers around! Keagan and Semaj are very cute and I am having a blast playing with them!

Went to Mobap yesterday. It was this odd experience where the physical aspects of the school I knew had drastically changed but then there was this time warp when I spotted certain people. Dr. Allen and Dr. Faszold crossing the parking lot. Linda Chrisope smiling at me in the admin building. Laurie Gowen (Wallace) helped me to remember runny eggs from my old breakfast club days. And of course Kathleen McCaffery (Went) will always be a fun face of familiarity on a visit there!

Well I am off to play Phase 10 with the Mainers! More to come!

Jasper Speaks:

1 day down! 179 to go! Actually today wasn't all bad. It was good to see some of my favorite kids. I actually got a whole new advocate for this year and in it there were A LOT of my favorite kids from last year that I wasn't going to have in class! That is a good surprise. In my district, not many surprises are of that kind.

Betsy comes tomorrow! I am so very excited! I know all of you will love her! We are adopting a 21 year old from Maine. How cool is that?
So, now I am just sleepy and need to go to bed. 4:55 AM came early this morning and will come even earlier tomorrow I am sure. It cracked me up when Jeff called today and thought he would call me on my way to work if he called me at 7:30AM. Note to the full-time youth pastors out there. School STARTS at 7:30! I was on the road at 5:55 AM! But it was wicked encouraging to hear my good friend's voice saying he was praying for me so that makes it okay!

Classic moment from today: "Mr. Rains" rapping the words to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" to his all African American class. Needless to say, they were laughing at me. A lot.
Funny Movie Quote

Jasper Speaks:

So, we we are watching the movie above and a line that always cracks me up came on:

"Yeah, I'm sexy. I'm a sexy man of God."

Yeah, I so can relate.

School starts tomorrow! I still don't know what kids I am going to have. Pray that all goes well.
