Take Me Or Leave Me

Jasper Speaks:

So, for the third time in a year a lot of St. Louis is out of electricity. A whole bunch of people from our church is without. We are fine as are my family. Kendra, Victor, Betsy and I are kind of having a HUGE slumber party at the hotel. We have a big common room and the two rooms on either side. Kendra has had to work straight through and it has been very busy. Mostly, a few nights at a hotel is exciting for people. Not so much for me. We do it a lot. It has been kind of BORING. You see Victor and Betsy are the world's oldest Disney channel freaks. Like almost in a creepy way. We do have three TVs but I WANT the company.

So, now I am in Kendra's office and spending some time outside of the room because I was going kind of batty. Please pray for my dear friend Jessi. Her house caught on fire last night and they lost almost everything. She is a single mom and has two small girls. We love her dearly and are very sad that this has happened. please pray that everything will go well with the insurance.

Well, I might need to go back to the room. Actually when I left they were watching a Pyche marathon that wasn't bad. I just missed Kendra and so it is nice to be close to her. So, the weather wins here again. Ice, ice baby ...

I'll Cover You (Reprise)

Jasper Speaks:

What a long day. We travled to Ste. Gen to go to Julie's dad's funeral today. We pray that God will show the family His love and strenght during this time. There were so many people there! I hope that brings some comfort to Julie and her family. Ste. Gen (and it is Ste. it is the french spelling) is only a little over an hour from our house. When we got there we waited in line for about a half an hour to get to the family. A lot of love in that room today.

Then we got back and I rushed to the church. I thought I had my powerpoint for tonight saved and then realized I had the wrong file on my cd rom and so I had to redo the whole thing! I got a little stressed but God worked it all out.

I really enjoyed Reality Check. I loved the worship. My Savior, My God was totally blowing the windows out of the youth hall!

It was probably evident how passionate I am about this series. Ordinary life is boring and useless. Jesus didn't come to let us all continue to live ordinarily. He came to give us real and eternal life; a better life than we could ever dream of.

This passage of Scripture just makes me want to give so much more to God and expect so much more out of my Christian walk. He came. He understands. He knows how I feel because He came. Totally amazing to me! God is daily rescuing us from an ordinary life.

I'll Cover You

Jasper Speaks:

So as I am preparing for the message at Reality Check tomorrow night, God has been speaking to me. God came to us. That is pretty amazing. It is incredible that the creator of the universe would care so much for us that he would leave Heaven and come here. It just blows me away. I have been trying to get my mind around it all and it is pretty hard to understand. God is God, right? He could do whatever he pleases, right? Why doesn't he just MAKE us follow Him? I am convinced it is because He requires honesty in our commitment. If we love Him we will do what He wants us to do. Too hard? He did it.

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, I came ... That's deep. I think about working out at the gym and watching the people training with personal trainers. The trainer shows them what they should do and then cheers them on as they try it themselves. God did that. He came to earth and showed us how to live. Then (as Keith reminded us Sunday) He is now in Heaven "training" us and cheering us on. He took our punishment and then went to be with the Father to plead our case to Him. Amazing.

Imagine a person murders someone. You get convicted of it. You get sentenced to die in prison. It comes out that the other person did it. You plead His case. You say it is okay that you take the rap. Please, let Him continue to live in the outside world. You love them so much that you are willing to stay in prison so that they are free. You go to the electric chair with everyone knowing you are guiltless and willing, so the real killer can be free. He did that.

Anyway, I can't even begin to describe it. Actually, for thousands of years people have been trying to put grace into words. It is completely impossible. But still, I don't want to stop trying. I feel like as long as I try to put my words to God's grace, I will always be searching my heart to understand it. I think that is a pretty lofty goal.

Please Pray

Jasper Speaks:

So, tonight we got some really bad news. Kendra's boss (who is also Kendra's best friend in St. Louis at this point)'s dad passed away suddenly. We don't know any details yet. He lived in Ste. Genevive, Missouri (a little over an hour outside St. Louis) and we know Julie is on her way there. Please pray for them all right now. As far as we can tell Julie and her family only have a marginal Catholic faith. We have been praying for her for a long time and she attended a couple of Christmas services (including our musical at Parkway), this past season. Please pray that we will know how to best minister to Julie at this time as well.

Life Support

Jasper Speaks:

Well Charter stinks and those of you in St. Louis probably know that already. It is one of the worst run companies in the country and because of its REALLY BAD customer service we are ending are affiliation with them for now at least. The bad part is that we have our home phone, our internet and our tv all through them so as of Wednesday, all three will be in the past. We just can't take the issues with them anymore. So, for at least a couple of weeks, I won't have internet at home. We will have to get home phone service to get the internet back so we will probably be getting back to AT&T who we weren't overly happy with the last time. I hate that there is so little competition in these areas. What happened to deregulation?

Anyhow, I am not sure yet how this will affect blogging. I have three other outlets and I am hoping I can stay on top that way. It won't be easy and I will be going through media withdraw BIG TIME. I am hoping we will read more, scrapbook and play games. It may be a bit Little House On The Prairie but I think it may be good for us.

We have had a good weekend. Friday night we spent with the Wardens who are like our second family. Ann, Mel and Josh came over and we just talked a lot with Benchwarmers on in the background. Good times. We love them a lot.

Last night we visited with Missy and Eric Haas. Missy was Kendra's suite mate her freshmen year of college. She and Eric were in my friend Rick Tucker's first youth group so I have kind of known them since they were eight graders. Yeah, a constant reminder of how I robbed the cradle. We played spades (Kendra an I won in an unbelievable last hand) and Apples to Apples. It was a good time and a good reminder that Kendra does have normal friends. Missy and Eric are both school teachers so there is a lot of common talk as well.

Today I got to play the apostle John at church. I got to interrupt Keith sermon and do a quick monologue. It was fun. I like being somewhere that I can use my abilities in neat ways for God. Then Bestsy came back tonight! YEA! Victor, Theresa and Jessi met us at the Sheraton and we all took her out to dinner at Bandana's. We stayed for like two hours and were way loud. It was a lot of fun.

I talked to my friend Tracy on the way home. She is having surgery next Monday that could take seven or eight hours. It is a recurring problem and she had a lot of complications the last time. That makes me sad. She is one of my FAVORITE people in the world and I wish she would get better. So, if you have a second, please pray for her!

Back to school tomorrow. Hopefully in a couple of days the van will be ready and we won't have to car pool anymore. We'll see. All in all it has been a good weekend. God has reminded me that he is WAY TOO good to me by providing so many GREAT friends. I am blessed beyond measure and it has been wonderful to spend time with these special gifts from God this weekend.
