Our week one memory verse from the D-Now quiet time guide is Mark 8:35
"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses hi life for me and for the gospel will save it."
That get me thinking about my own life. As I examine my heart I know there are areas where I try to hold onto "my life". I make destructive decisions far more than I would Like to admit. I waste time worrying every day. I don't thank God for His blessings nearly enough. I do all this because I want some control over who I am and where I go.
Sound familiar? Adam and Eve wanted that too. The original sin was wanting to save our lives. Not save them from dying but horde them to ourselves and make decisions on our own without God's plan "getting in the way". When Eve took hold of the fruit, death occurred immediately. Her pure and passionate soul died. She tried to save her life and lost it.
That can happen to us too. We want to take the game controls from the hands of God and take our lives in our own direction. God wants us to say, "whatever you ask" and let Him take full control over our destiny. We want to pull things back our way. the funny part of that is that God DOES have full control over our destiny. Don't use that for an excuse to sin though. When we sin, WE miss out on all that we can have. WE lose our lives and let them start to decay with the stench of the world. If we humbly acknowledge God's plan and follow through on that, we will ahve the full and abundant life that God call for us to live.
John 10:10 says, "A thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. I came that you might have life --- a real and better life than you could have imagined". We we try to save our life we lose it to the enemy and his diabolical plan to steal, kill and destroy us. He only wants to steal our joy, kill our witness and destroy our lives. I want to commit today to loses my life fully to Christ so that, in the end, I will have saved it.
SO TIRED! The past two night Jackson kept us up A LOT! I am not sure what is wrong with him but he definitely has me dragging. Jeff is speaking at Reality Check tonight and next week. He is going through James. Last week we read the entire book aloud. It was pretty chem!
As we gear up for summer (I need to think warm thoughts today because it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO cold) we have some great options for our summer intern. It is exciting to see who God may be throwing our way!
