Today's Updates

Jasper Speaks:

Sorry that I didn't post yesterday. Here is the latest. God is still doing miracles! The first part is from Donnie's blog yesterday and then he shares some prayer requests. Let's keep praying!

Donnie Speaks:

Stress? What Stress?

From Don's Blog at http://whatsthemotivation.wordpress.com/

I have written and rewritten the first line of this post 3 times and I can not come up with a sentence that does my thought justice. On Saturday my bride of 8 years almost died. Next thing you know, she’s taking a stroll around the hospital. I am sure that God is doing amazing things both here in Southern Maine and in many other places. There are people recognizing their need for something more. There are people recognizing their need for community. There are people who are taking this opportunity to live their lives to honor our creator God in all that they do.

There are so many people who I have come in contact with this past week that I have never met and I am sure that I never would have met them had this not happened. There are people who have been drawn to the waiting room as if pulled by an unknown force. There are people who have been drawn to contact me who I haven’t seen or talked to in years. This is the work of the Holy Spirit who has been sent to minister not only to me; but to anyone who would humble themselves and realize that there is something bigger than themselves in control of everything.

I can not help but wonder how many people will end up being touched by this one occurence. In truth, I know that it will not be until Heaven that Laurie will fully see the impact that she has had on not only this community but others as well. This is where it gets tricky. We so badly want to lift up Laurie as a wonderful Mother/Wife/Person without recognizing where her help comes from. Milton Vincent says, “Outside of heaven, the power of God in its highest density is found inside the gospel.” The gospel is called the power of God in Romans 1:16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes and in 1 Corinthians 1:18 – For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Nothing else is called the power of God except Jesus Christ Himself in 1 Corinthians 1:24.

When we realize that we are not center of the gospel but that God’s glory is, we can truly live in the power that is promised to us. We do not live for our own glory but for the Glory of God. We realize that it is because God first loved us that we even have the opportunity to love others. 1 John 4:19 says it plainly when we read – We love because He first loved us. I want to make it clear that the only thing you’ve seen when I don’t look stressed is God. You may think I’m handling it, that I am being a wonderful husband and father but I assure you that it is because of God’s grace and mercy that I am able to continue day-to-day.

I pray that you would learn about this gospel and seek God in all you do…ALL you do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says – So, whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. There isn’t anything you can do any day of the week that can substitute for getting involved in Christian community and seeking God in all His glory. There also isn’t anything you can do to disqualify yourself from Christian community. We are all sinners who need a savior. We all need to hear the gospel on a daily basis both preached to our selves and from others in community.

I would love to chat with you sometime about why this is so important to me and why it is the center of my life. Let’s grab a beer sometime.

-Cheers,
Don

Prayer Requests:
-That church services all over the area would have an amazing Christ-Centered service
- That God would speak through humble witnesses of this miracle
- That Emma's ear infection would head so she can go back to school

Laurie Update

Jasper Speaks:

Just to let you know, I heard today that Laurie was walking down the hall past the Waiting Room at the hospital and talking to people! God is so good! Please continue to pray for this family as they climb the high mountain of recovery!

Here is Donnie's update for today from Facebook:

So many thing to Praise the Lord for today. Laurie is up and walking, talking and healing at a speedy pace. But please continue to pray:
- Laurie would progress to the 6th floor, meaning she will be on a regular floor instead of the special care unit
- Jesus would continue to receive praise for all that is happening
- God would continue to open up doors to speak about Him
- That the Holy Spirit would continue to ministry to the family

To God be the glory!

A Second Update on Laurie

Jasper Speaks:

Just got this update on Facebook from Donnie:

You've got all things suspended
All things connected
Nothing was forgotten
'Cause your love is perfect
You are our healer
And you know what's broken
And we're not a mystery to you

Lord, you mend the breech
And you break every fetter
You give us your best, but what we thought was better
And you are to be praised

I had a hard time yesterday trying to figure out how/what to write yesterday. Laurie started having conversations yesterday but wasn't very clear in much of what she was saying. This is completely normal for a person with a brain injury such as this. I did not want to alarm anyone or create false hopelessness.

Laurie Coldwell is now once again a living miracle. That is a fact. I can now look back at two days of speech and see a progression. She recognized more people today including my parents (yeah) and she could talk for a longer period of time before needing to rest. She still has a long way to go. I am not sure if the truth of this statement has penetrated my understanding as much as it will, however, I know that as fast as she is progressing; it is going to be weeks/months/longer? before she is back.

Are you guys (and girls - sorry it's a yankee thing) ready for the long haul? Are you guys ready to work with her and understand her and speak with her and repeat yourself to her and hold her up and pray for her....and and and?

It hit me today how big this is as I talked to her. She is alive and I thank God...if she comes home not being able to speak sentences I will love her with all I have...which is given to me by God...and I will live forever with her. For a time here on earth and for eternity in Heaven.

Are you ready?

God Keeps Moving

Jasper Speaks:

Here is the latest update on Laurie Coldwell. Let's keep praying!

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade

To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky

Saturday night I was told 3 times in 4 hours that my bride Laurie Coldwell would not live.

Laurie is now breathing on her own, standing without 'much' help for short periods, and talking.

How's that for down and up?

The doctors and nurses are watching (let's be serious...the nurses are the ones watching and doing all the work) for certain aggravations to the brain from the surgery that could cause serious complications. We pray that the next 14 days would be very boring.

At that point Laurie continues a journey that makes the Appalachian Trail look like a walkway to the front door.

Praise His Holy Name!

Notes To Laurie

Jasper Speaks:

If you are interested in sending Laurie a birthday wish, her birthday is tomorrow March 17 (yes she is a St. Patrick's Day Baby), here is a link to the hospital website where you can do so.

MMC Click Here

The family wants to keep the birthday low key for obvious reasons. They are encouraging cards and I thought it would be great if some of you who don't even know her would let her know you are praying for her on her birthday.

Let's show her that she is a witness of God's power to us all!

What My God Can Do!

Jasper Speaks:

Here is a Laurie update I wasn't expecting to give (and certainly not this soon!) This is Donnie's current Facebook status:

Laurie is talking. Praise His holy name!!

Wow! Aaron Chapman just called me and said that he was in the waiting room with Donnie when a doctor came in and said. "Which one of you is the husband?" Donnie raised his hand and the doctor said, "You might want to come in here because she is sitting up and talking!"

How AMAZING! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep praying. I said to Kendra last night that God might just do something that would knock our socks off and it seems like He is! I feel like a girl going from crying tears of heartbreak to tears of joy! She is far from out of the woods but please pray that she will continue to get better!

Laurie and Donnie on the night they got engaged

***Update***

Just got this on Facebook:

Here are something you can continue to pray for:
- Pray for Emma (Laurie's six year old daughter who called for help on Saturday) , she is doing great, but continue to pray for her
- Pray for stability for the kids. Don is very grateful to all who are helping, but there are alot of people going in and out.
- Pray that all the things that could still go wrong, won't. And God's glory would reign over all in this situation
- Pray for Don's Job... not sure what is going to happen next
- Don specifically asked for prayer that he would continue to be the husband and father he is called to be.

Thank you all!

Update on Laurie

Jasper Speaks:

Please keep praying. Here is the latest update from Donnie:

Psalm 22:1-5
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.
Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our fathers trusted; they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

For every hour that my bride Laurie lives, her chances of living increase exponentially. She is not fully out of the woods but the trees are thinning and we praise God in all things.

Tomorrow they start physical therapy on her and we continue to wait and see how she reacts and how her brain heals. She will be in her current room (open to immediate family only) for at least the rest of this week before they try and figure out what kind of therapy if any she will need.

We pray that God would continue to heal her and that we would not have false hope in her actions but true hope in God's promises.

If you would like to visit, please feel free to join one of the prayer shifts in the waiting area just outside of her room. We love company and talking about Laurie and the One she loves Jesus.

Please continue to pray for her life. She is heavily sedated but not in a coma at this time.
Once again...please forward this to all you know.

Please continue to pray.
PLEASE PRAY!!!

Jasper Speaks:

Please pray for Laurie Coldwell. She is a dear friend of ours who was a youth leader when we were at our church in Maine. She is the woman in this picture:

She suffered a sudden brain aneurysm yesterday and the prognosis is not good. Please pray for healing and for her husband, Don and their three kids. Here is a post from Don's Facebook page:

On Saturday March 13th my bride Laurie Coldwell had a brain aneurysm burst and she fell into a coma. Our brave and courageous daughter Emma immediately called me at work and told me that mommy was sick.

Paramedics took her to Maine Medical Center where a brain scan confirmed the bleeding and emergency surgery was started.

Without going into the gory details...we are praying for survival.

Please lift up my bride and my children in prayer as we face this challenge.

Feel free to forward this to all who may know her.

I will post updates as I get them.
